Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living in New South Wales

What SIL is, who it's for and how to access it, with registered nurse oversight in every home we support, across all 128 council areas of New South Wales, from Sydney to regional communities.

Overview

What is supported independent living?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for help with daily tasks in your home, so you can build skills and live as independently as possible. It is most often delivered in a shared home, with support available up to 24 hours a day.

SIL pays for the support, not the house. Rent and living costs are paid by you, and the home itself may be funded separately through Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) if you're eligible.

We match housemates carefully, considering personalities, interests, age, culture and support needs, and every home has a consistent team led by a house supervisor with clinical oversight from our registered nurses.

How we do it differently

  • 01

    Thoughtful housemate matching

Visits, shared meals and trial stays before you commit, so you can meet housemates first.

  • 02

    Registered nurse oversight

Our clinical team reviews health plans, medication and risks in every home.

  • 03

    Skills that grow

Every resident has goals, and we track progress towards more independence.

“Moving Mum into shared living was hard. The team took time to learn her routines and her language, and she's settled better than we ever hoped.”

How it's funded

FAQs

Common questions

Can't find your answer? Call us on 1800 328 885.

Do you provide supported independent living across New South Wales?

Yes. We support people in all 128 New South Wales council areas, from metropolitan Sydney to regional and remote communities, through our own teams and trusted local partners.

Which New South Wales hospitals do you take referrals from?

We work with discharge teams at hospitals across New South Wales, including Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital Sydney, Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital.

What's the difference between SIL, SDA and ILO?

SIL funds the support you receive at home. SDA funds specialist housing for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. Individualised Living Options (ILO) fund flexible support in your own home or a host arrangement, usually for people who don't need 24/7 rostered support.

How do I get SIL in my NDIS plan?

Talk to your support coordinator or planner about your home and living goals. You'll usually need functional assessments (for example from an occupational therapist) and a roster of care from a provider. We can prepare the roster and help gather evidence.

Can I visit a home before moving in?

Yes. We encourage visits, shared meals and trial stays before any move.
