Overview

What is supported independent living?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for help with daily tasks in your home, so you can build skills and live as independently as possible. It is most often delivered in a shared home, with support available up to 24 hours a day.

SIL pays for the support, not the house. Rent and living costs are paid by you, and the home itself may be funded separately through Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) if you're eligible.

We match housemates carefully, considering personalities, interests, age, culture and support needs, and every home has a consistent team led by a house supervisor with clinical oversight from our registered nurses.

How it's funded

SIL needs to be included in your NDIS plan, usually based on a roster of care (quote) that we prepare with you. SDA, if needed, is funded separately.

Do you provide supported independent living in Scone?

Yes. We support people across the Upper Hunter Shire Council, including Scone, Aberdeen, Murrurundi and Merriwa, through our own teams and trusted local partners.

Can you help with discharge from Maitland Hospital?

Yes. We work with discharge teams at Maitland Hospital, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital, John Hunter Hospital and other hospitals serving Upper Hunter to plan a safe move home or into supported accommodation.

What's the difference between SIL, SDA and ILO?

SIL funds the support you receive at home. SDA funds specialist housing for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. Individualised Living Options (ILO) fund flexible support in your own home or a host arrangement, usually for people who don't need 24/7 rostered support.

How do I get SIL in my NDIS plan?

Talk to your support coordinator or planner about your home and living goals. You'll usually need functional assessments (for example from an occupational therapist) and a roster of care from a provider. We can prepare the roster and help gather evidence.

Can I visit a home before moving in?

Yes. We encourage visits, shared meals and trial stays before any move.
